STOCKPORT: THE HOLLYWOOD OF THE NORTH

Unassuming Stockport, a medium-sized town located in Greater Manchester, is beginning to establish itself as the new Hollywood of the North . With its burgeoning independent film scene and thriving creative community, Stockport is rapidly becoming a hub for both independent film and large scale productions. Filming in England has revealed that the town has had 197 shoot days and an estimated £3.5 million production spend since January 2018.

In recent years, Stockport has played host to a number of high-profile film projects, working with Netflix, The BBC, ITV, Amazon, Disney+, Channel 4 and Sky. The town's unique mix of historic architecture and contemporary creativity has made it an attractive location for filmmakers looking for interesting and authentic settings for their productions.

Stockport has also gained a reputation for being a hub for artistic talent, with a number of local artists and creatives establishing themselves on the national stage. The town's annual Art Walk festival and its many independent galleries and cafes have helped to promote Stockport's creative scene, drawing both local audiences and tourists to the area and rendering it Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture for 2023.

While Stockport may not yet be as well-known as the Hollywood hills, its growing reputation as a center for independent film production in North England suggests that this may be the start of something special. As more filmmakers and creatives flock to the town, Stockport is well-positioned to become one of the most exciting and vibrant hubs for independent film production in the UK.
